Thinking about releasing a film into the world doesn’t only happen after the film is completed. As a director, at what point do you start thinking about which aspects of releasing your film, and what do you actually ‘release’? There is an audience with expectations and reactions, as well as industry players who need and want something from your story. As a director or a producer, when do you involve distribution partners? Director Lea Glob and highly experienced sales agent Maëlle Guenegues dive into the different stages and moments involved in releasing Apolonia, Apolonia (Denmark, Poland, France 2022), a film which celebrated its word premiere at IDFA 2022, winning the main award in the International Competition, going on to be selected for a huge number of festivals and winning some 15 awards to date.
