AI has already made a huge impact on our lives. Its positive and negative effects are being explored as it is being developed. How can we use it in documentary filmmaking, with all its ethical implications and potential applications? We will hear from two industry leaders who will share their thoughts, experiences, and practical tips on how to use this technology in our field.
Francesca Panetta, a journalist, new media artist and director of UAL's KO Storytelling Institute, uses emerging technologies to innovate new forms that have social impact. Mads Damsbo has worked with emerging tech and cinema for over twelve years and has been exploring how artists and filmmakers can collaborate with artificial intelligence since five years. He cofounded the company that invented the tool Kaspar AI while biproduct of this research created the film behind IDFA opening film About a Hero.
What AI can and cannot do, how to use it in a practical and effective way, how to deal turn it into an ally as opposed to unconsciously allowing it to take over your aesthetics (let alone ethics) and storytelling, what are the creative elements and fields of our industry where it can have the most positive impact - all these and many other questions will be examined by Panetta and Damsbo in this session.
