Industry Talk: Mental resilience – Real stories for youth in a complex world
Industry Talk: Mental resilience – Real stories for youth in a complex world
Beschrijving

Growing up today means a constant flow of information, social pressure, questions of identity, relationships, and the future. Young people are distracted by algorithms, attention spans are shrinking, and the personal social cohesion of earlier generations is lacking. Documentary films can help the young make sense of these experiences, develop empathy, and build mental resilience.

This Talk explores how documentary storytelling helps young audiences understand themselves and others. Starting with a Nutri-Score for Youth Media, filmmakers share examples of stories that challenge, move, and stay with young viewers.

Rather than shielding the young from hard subjects, how can we trust them with nuanced stories, respect their ability to engage?  What creative choices can address complex ideas and create space to see the experiences of young viewers? How to evaluate a film’s impact beyond age ratings and viewing figures? Help young people feel seen, understand others, and become more accepting of themselves?

Through examples, reflections and a panel conversation, this Talk explores how documentary cinema can bring young people to understanding, empathy and resilience.
