Contagious & Queer: Virus Becoming
Contagious & Queer: Virus Becoming
Description

Calling for transgenic creatures – human, non-human and trans-mutant-variants, to join a virus-becoming workshop. This performative workshop invites the participants to propose tactics and strategies with multiplied viral selves to defy the controlling apparatuses and systematic repression.

In UKI, Shu Lea Cheang’s sci-fi viral alt-reality cinema, Reiko, a redundant IKU (orgasm) coder dumped in the Etrashville by GENOM Co., strives to reboot their defunct hard-drive body. Joined by Etrashville’s transgenic creatures, Reiko’s frenzy of coding and recoding inadvertently launches them into UKI the virus. GENOM Co. exits the Net, resurfaces as a BioTech enterprise, takes a human body hostage to initiate BioNet: a network made up of re-engineered red blood cells capable of self-generating orgasm data as collectible assets to produce a RED PILL for instant consumption. UKI, the virus, replicated and mobilized, infiltrates the BioNet to reclaim lost orgasm data.

How to apply?

To apply to participate in the workshop with Shu Lea Cheang, send a transgenic creature imaging of yourself, with a brief bio and portfolio/website (if applicable) by Friday 10 November tovirusbecoming@gmail.com. Participation fee is 12 Euro. You'll receive confirmation and payment link by Saturday 11 November.

Part of the Contagious & Queer program.
