Over the past decade and a half, impact has developed and professionalized as a documentary practice. The term Impact Producer was coined in 2012, and since then, Impact Producers have built methodologies, guides, labs, funds, networks and communities of practice, alongside an extraordinary, worldwide body of work and experience. This is worth recognising and celebrating.

This talk assesses what's been done, and how to move forward. Using different perspectives to explore what happens to knowledge, relationships, expertise and capacity beyond individual projects, impact experts and documentary directors will discuss how impact can be combined across a larger slate, how it has benefitted filmmakers, and what helped the practice grow and mature.

Looking ahead, the panel will explore how impact experts want the field to look in five years, what they need to strengthen or build to get there, and  who has the power—and responsibility—to make this possible.
