IDFA Meets Eastern Playgrounds
IDFA Meets Eastern Playgrounds
Description

Eastern Playgrounds is an Amsterdam-based queer Asian collective creating spaces for connection, imagination, mutual support, communal care and joy. Founded in 2024, it brings together food, music, play, and artistic practices and cultural programming to foster connection within and beyond our communities, creating opportunities for solidarity, exchange and deeper understanding across our different lived experiences and struggles.

For IDFA Meets, the collective responds to Baby Jackfruit Baby Guava, Nông Nhật Quang’s intimate autobiographical documentary about family, queer identity and returning home. After the screening, the film becomes the starting point for a conversation with the director and queer artists, filmmakers and community members from the Asian diaspora, reflecting on family, belonging and the experience of building a life between different worlds.

The conversation then gives way to karaoke – a portal to home for many across the Asian diaspora. Drawing inspiration from a memorable moment in the film, we come together through song and sing our hearts out.

IDFA Meets brings together bold collaborations across the cultural field to engage a new generation of curious minds with a passion for arts and culture beyond cinema.
