Market Screening: The Art Whisperer
The Art Whisperer is an untold story and an intimate portrait of the late Ginny Williams (1927–2019), a trailblazing art collector who championed women artists to record-breaking auction sales, including Louise Bourgeois, Yayoi Kusama, Joan Mitchell, Agnes Martin, Lee Krasner, Roni Horn, Ann Hamilton —who are now icons of the art world, in no small part thanks to Ginny’s vision and support, especially during a time when their contributions were often overlooked. The documentary was filmed over four years, capturing intimate conversations with Ginny about her insights into the art world and her special way of navigating it. The film also features valuable insights from art luminaries such as Amy Cappellazzo (Sotheby's) and Richard Armstrong (The Guggenheim Museum), as well as artists Ann Hamilton and Roni Horn. Ginny opened her first gallery in her late 50s and began her art collection career in her 60s. Not only did she amass one of the world’s most important collections of art by female artists, but also placed their work in major art institutions across America.Â
