Three films for 14+ exploring three unique universes. In If You Don’t Like It, Look Away a group of girls of retirement age go to the beach, take off their tops and spend their time drinking, being loud, talking about sex and doing other stuff women of their age are not supposed to do. At least, according to how they are usually depicted in films. A Missed Call shows a man walking on a planet, somewhere in outer space. He calls home and leaves a message, describing his universe. His new home seems to be far, far away from the one he used to inhabit. He yearns for the past, but seems to be unable to go back. Where is he, and how did he end up here? In My Sister’s Room the director films her younger sister, who seems to live in her bedroom all the time. A safe space where she can deal with life and her mental health on her own terms. Here, she can sleep as long as she wants to, laugh with her friends about the boys she dates and take care of her plant.
The directors of these three visionary films open up fresh perspectives on familiar topics such as age, depression, adolescence and belonging.
