Where seven villages once formed a vibrant community along the coast of Odisha, India, rising sea levels are now slowly claiming the land. Nature once flourished there, and families made their living from the river. Now, drought, coastal erosion, and devastation prevail.
This ecological disaster is exacting a heavy human toll. Failed harvests, corruption, and the threat of demolition are making everyday life difficult, while the radio carries the bad news of approaching cyclones. Residents have to travel kilometers for even a little drinking water. Young people leave for the city in search of a future—those who stay grow up in isolation. Meanwhile, older people dream of their departed children and the community that once was.
Through the evocative sounds of nature, old archival footage, and melancholic voice-overs, the film tracks the disappearance of a rich river culture. The flowing river becomes a symbol of the flow of memories, of migration and loss, and of a landscape that is disappearing into the sea bit by bit.
