Filmmaker Laura Chará returns to the women in her family in search of memories of her mother, who died when she was very young. Her grandmother is one of the few people who can tell her about the woman she barely remembers. But as her body and mind increasingly fail her, she grows quieter and more reluctant to talk. Chará, who has few memories of her mother, longs to make contact. At the family home in a village in Cauca, Colombia, she searches for traces of her mother. Is she still there? Does she live on in other people’s memories? Does her spirit still wander through the house where she died far too young? And what does it actually mean to be a mother?
In this tender, serene film about grief, memory, and powerlessness, women from different generations each find their own way of living with an unbearable loss.
