After the devastating earthquakes of February 2023 along the Turkey-Syria border, Perihan Incegöz follows the residents of a Kurdish village affected by the disaster. Amid collapsed houses, cracks in the walls, and the nighttime chirping of crickets, the adults seek stability in familiar rituals and in being together.
Meanwhile, the village children turn the ruins into a playground. Sitting in an imaginary rocket, they fantasize about space monsters and dream of traveling to the moon. From there, they imagine, their ruined village looks very small—as tiny as an ant.
Through song and play, children and adults process the trauma of the disaster. The intimate Our Village from the Moon becomes a political and poetic meditation on survival, resilience, and the power of imagination in a place that is broken time and again.
