Musk
Space investor, environmental champion, right-wing prophet, and advocate as well as critic of artificial intelligence. Who is Elon Musk? This four-hour portrait of the notorious businessman explores his many different faces. At its core is the question: why did he trade his climate ambitions for an alliance with US president Donald Trump?
Musk believes that we live in a simulation. He sees life as a game in which consequences don’t matter. The film portrays him as a video-game avatar who switches effortlessly between roles: first he's a savior of humanity, then a conservative influencer.
Archival footage charting Musk’s rise is interspersed with interviews with his employees and family members, including ex-wife Justine Musk, father Errol Musk, and former girlfriend Ashley St Clair. Musk himself refused to participate. Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney—who previously made a film about Steve Jobs—therefore trained an AI model on Musk’s interviews and public appearances and interviewed the resulting artificial Musk instead. This grotesque avatar might just prove to be an accurate representation of Musk’s vision of the future.
