You Can See Everything
In the final 34 days before her 11-year prison sentence for fraud, Elizabeth Holmes, founder of infamous health-tech company Theranos, opens her doors to filmmakers Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. In exchange, they are promised full access. Do Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, hope that opening their lives to the filmmakers will help set the record straight? Or is there more to their invitation than meets the eye?
The film crew embarks on this adventure with a healthy dose of skepticism. What follows is an intriguing game of cat-and-mouse between Fielder, Holmes, and Evans, sending the viewer on an emotional roller coaster, with twists and turns that leave them questioning what, exactly, they are watching. In this bizarre and complex portrait, nothing is as it seems. Fielder questions, charms, probes, and challenges, doing everything he can to get a handle on the situation. But who’s playing who, here?
Awkward, funny, and nail-bitingly tense, this film—three years in the making, under a veil of secrecy—explores the challenges and limits of understanding and portraying a human being.
