Synopsis

Lesbian Simulator is shown as an installation in the DocLab Exhibition and is part of the VR Gallery.

For lesbians looking for recognition, but more particularly for anyone who would like to get a sense of what their queer family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances experience, both negative and positive, here’s Lesbian Simulator.

Mix your own lesbian avatar in the magic cauldron (with a few body parts, a dash of fashion sense, and a few more secret ingredients); choose the hairstyle and outfit that best suit your alter ego and set off in search of your first lesbian rave, date and partner, with a little help from the heavenly Lesbian Goddess (voiced by Hanna van Vliet). But along the way—because, sadly, that’s still the world we live in—you’ll have to come out more than once in different situations, fend off toxic male harassers and face public disapproval.

In a cheerful, cartoonish form, with infectious danceable music and an ironic tone, this colorful VR game playfully navigates both serious and light-hearted topics. You flirt, fight and knock back another negroni sbagliato, while scoring as many carabiners as you can, on your way to a collective, loving Pride experience.

IDFA DocLab: Off the Internet explores the paradox of our time: the growing desire to disconnect, the impossibility of ever truly logging off, and the inherent privilege of stepping offline. With Off the Internet, DocLab turns to interactive and immersive art in search of new forms of presence and connection.
