About IDFA

In addition to our annual festival, IDFA engages year-round in a variety of activities. These include public programs, supporting new documentary projects and emerging talent, advocating for persecuted filmmakers, and developing educational initiatives.

What we do

Each year, for 11 days in November, Amsterdam celebrates the flourishing documentary artform in all its diversity with more than 2.500 professionals and a wide audience that accounts for almost 300.000 festival visits. But IDFA is doing more. Having its own building gives IDFA the ultimate opportunity to develop as an institution in Amsterdam, and remain visible year-round. Furthermore IDFA seeks to stimulate creativity and open up scope for free artistic expression through a range of programs and finance arrangements allowing filmmakers to develop both their projects and themselves.

Mission and vision

Creative documentary films provide insight into society, open eyes, and stimulate critical thinking. IDFA is committed to addressing urgent social issues by presenting documentaries from around the world that reflect on the most pressing questions of our time.
