The Daughter of Both Women
Catalan teenager Iona hates her mother, and she lets us know it right at the start of this short film, which she co-directed. She reads from her diaries to tell us about her early teens, against the backdrop of a rapid montage of her photographs and videos.
Iona is frustrated about the way she was brought up by her biological mother and her mother’s best girlfriend. And she is angry with her father, who was never there for her. In between times, she also talks about getting her period, boys, dating and throwing up in bed.
Iona discovers that she’s still got all sorts of questions, which she reveals in this heartfelt and relatable film. Towards the end she realizes that making this ego documentary may help her build a bridge to answers that she’s always been looking for.
