Hard to Break

Atte and Jonsu are two Finnish teenagers with a complicated relationship status. Eighteen-year-old Atte, who is popular on Snapchat with his “Pullis” account, likes to drink, smoke weed and break all the rules. He lives in his own apartment and his life looks like one big party, but he has trouble dealing with all the freedom.

Atte is evicted from his apartment and starts getting into more trouble with the law. Sixteen-year-old Jonsu has a lot to deal with as well. Her mother sends her to juvenile services, and eventually her relationship with Atte comes under pressure.

This youth documentary shows the world through the eyes of Jonsu and Atte. The chats and videos they post on their socials are an essential part of the film, and onscreen we see song lyrics, incoming messages and audio calls. All these components contribute to a moving portrait of two young people who, despite problems with addiction, violence and loneliness, discover they have powerful reserves of resilience and determination.
