Synopsis

Petra and her husband Antonio live in a small hut in rural Mexico. Farm life means hard work, and they make what they need from the corn they grow themselves. When Petra fell ill and could no longer fulfill her role in the household, her sister Francisca came to live with them. Petra had no objection to her husband marrying her sister too (“Bring her, I’m not going to hate my sister”). But their traditional community is less accepting of this harmonious domestic arrangement.

In their simple home, the gentle sisters and their calm husband tell their story plainly, with the occasional giggle as they describe their unusual family life. Their unfamiliarity with being filmed, combined with the filmmaker’s patient, unobtrusive approach, results in a pure and deeply honest portrait of a loving patchwork family in a place where the concept is still unheard of. Despite this, they follow their hearts.
