Simply Divine
In 1939 a young Romanian woman met a soldier. Love blossomed, but the man was sent to the front. They continued to write passionate letters to each another, but when she had to move they lost contact. She was never able to forget him. Will they ever meet again?
Now 91 years old, the woman shares her moving story in an intimate interview with her grandson, co-director Bogdan Stamatin. Her words are accompanied by oil painting-style animations by director and animator Mélody Boulissière, and images taken from the archive of Romanian photographer Costică Acsinte, which was rediscovered in 2013.
This short and slightly experimental documentary explores what remains of a love story after three quarters of a century and a world war, while also offering a glimpse into the selective nature of memory when it comes to tragic young love.
