Technologies break. Hardware becomes obsolete, software no longer supported and platforms disappear. For artworks that depend on digital technology, this creates a serious problem: what happens to a work when the technology it was made with changes, or no longer exists?

Archive Arcade brings back groundbreaking interactive documentaries from IDFA DocLab 's past, that were no longer available to the public. Using IMPRES, a new preservation and distribution infrastructure developed by Avinash Changa (WeMakeVR), these older works can now be experienced again including: the VR works Notes on Blindness (2016) and Nathalie's Trifecta (2023) and the the web documentary Thanatorama (2007). Step into the Archive Arcade and discover what it takes to keep immersive art alive and accessible - and why it matters.

This project has been supported through funding from the Creative Industries Fund NL, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and CIIIC
