A Place to Call Home
A dreamlike short with an estranged feel to it that reminds you of Alice in Wonderland. A father and his two daughters have ended up in a beautiful, yet strange place. Where everything seems to be off.
They explore the house they stay in. A cosy place, or so it seems. But it feels empty. Where is everybody? How long will they stay here? And where are their friends and the parties they used to go to?
The girls are bored, having nothing to do. The only company seems to be the people in the photos on the wall, and the books on the shelves.
Although not much is said, we hear them speak English, Farsi and Dutch. Hinting at the past and the journey that must have led them here. Director Parisa Aminolahi, creates an unusual experience with this inventive film. Shedding a new perspective on immigration, without explaining too much or resorting to the familiar clichés of this narrative.
