Gunpowder was originally discovered by accident as a means of chasing away evil spirits. Out of gratitude for its invention, filmmaker Juan Camilo González takes you on an unsettling, personal journey prompted by two very different uses of the explosive substance: killing and celebration. The film starts in China and ends centuries later in Colombia.

More than 20 years ago, González began making stark, powerful drawings. Years later, his friends helped him animate them. The result is this beautifully animated documentary, a feverish short film whose ghostly illustrations conjure up a world of their own.
