Social media indisputably influence the way young people develop. The makers of I Think You Should Be Here, filmmaker Élie Grappe and choreographer Anna-Marija Adomaityté, brought together seven young Swiss women at the beginning of their adult lives to look back at how TikTok has made them who they are today. In TikTok style, accompanied by vocals from Jeanne Pâris, they recreate in their bedrooms the dances they practiced endlessly in front of their smartphone cameras. In voice-over, they communicate with one another, share memories, and seek connection, each from their own space. Eventually, the separate videos come together to form a dance that is both collective and individual.
The film grew out of a 2023 dance performance about TikTok choreography featuring the same seven young women. They played a major role in the creative development of the piece, drawing on their extensive experience as TikTok users.
