In the DocLab VR Gallery, you can explore the latest virtual reality films and experiences: a range of projects to broaden your scope, long after you've removed the headset.
In Under the Same Sky (Khalil Ashawi), citizen journalists in life- threatening situations uncover daily life in Gaza. Amidst total devastation, VR reveals itself to be a powerful counterweight to the fragmented newsfeeds on our screens, devoid of context. Feedback, un musical antifuturista (Claudix Vanesix) takes us on a hallucinatory journey through digital and physical dimensions, led by three figures exploring tradition, identity, and technology. In We Are Dead Animals (Tote Tieren Maarten), we enter a virtual paradise where dead animals come back to life: a playful and disruptive ode to transience. And in Lesbian Simulator (Iris van der Meulen), you can create your own lesbian avatar to experience confronting situations in a lightheartedly comical way: coming out, flirting, but also unwanted attention and misunderstandings.
Outside of the DocLab Competitions, there's more to explore. In Exploding Girl VR, Candice embodies the disruptive madness of our times; an endless cycle of depression, anxiety, and rage, depicted in absurd scenes featuring exploding body parts, grotesque avatars, and puppies tangled up in barbed wire. Another Place is a ghost story about a transgender woman seeking asylum in Paris, looking for connection in an alienating world. And the winner of the 2025 Achievement Prize at Venice Immersive, A Long Goodbye, paints an intimate portrait of Ida, a 72-year-old pianist with dementia. While her world fades away, memories and love bring her back to life.
The VR Gallery is part of the DocLab Exhibition in De Brakke Grond (Nes 45, Amsterdam). One ticket gets you fifty minutes to explore multiple virtual reality projects of your choice. To experience all the available works, you'll need to reserve four time slots.
