Synopsis

What would the global elite do if a nuclear missile were on its way? Take to the skies in their private jets, you would expect. After all, they’re likely to know before the general public. With the Apocalypse Early Warning System, Kyle McDonald, an artist working with code, creates a playful but effective warning system based on that assumption.

The warning system is permanently available as a website and is presented as an installation during IDFA DocLab. A dashboard displays a threat level from 1 to 5, based on public, real-time data on private jet flights. The number of aircraft in the air at any given moment is compared with historical data for the same time in previous years. If there is a significant discrepancy, it may be time to take to the skies yourself—or look for a bunker.
