Where VR experiences often invite you to see through someone else’s eyes, this mixed reality documentary reverses that principle— geologist and singer-songwriter Cat Janice, who died in 2024, steps into your shoes. She experiences the world through your senses and moves her hands in sync with yours. The result is a tender duet between the living and the no-longer-living.
Janice was just 31 when she died of a rare form of cancer. Shortly before her death, her final single, “Dance You Outta My Head,” became a hit on TikTok. Alongside her own music, she spent the final years of her life working intensively on this project with theater and media artist Michał Stankiewicz. The experience is built from her voice, her image, her personality, and her presence. Places and objects that mattered to her were scanned in 3D, and her home videos and music videos woven into the work. More than a biography, Being in You is an echo of Janice’s life, experienced through an intimate encounter in a digital afterlife.
