Filmmaker Hernández Lopéz uses special digital techniques to add a surreal touch to the scene: a massive computer glows like a hallucinatory spaceship in the snow-white bedroom as it delivers Pol a steady stream of videos and podcasts by financial gurus. At a mega-event hosted by one such “finfluencer,” where the audience is almost religiously spellbound, Pol learns that no one needs to lead a mediocre life. Pol hopes crypto will help him break the cycle of poverty that’s trapped his family.
Despite the seriousness of the subject, the conversations with Pol are heartwarming, and the playfully understated use of AI draws us into his escape from reality. Driving a virtual Lamborghini in front of a greenscreen, Pol is already living the dream.
